SUN FLOWERS

Van Gogh calling again. Getting really interested in what’s seasonal, and I’ve just caught the end of the sunflowers at the supermarket. These card images were taken from photographs I took just as my purchases were dying, and as with so many flowers: tulips, hydrangeas, roses, as they wither and dry out in the vase they have a whole new visual existence to be captured. With sunflowers the stems are strong and muscular, the surface of the stalks and leaves is textured, “dusty” and can be captured really well in applying the gold drawing ink over the green.
